Abstract
1807. Brown, G. G. Jan. 23. Blind persons, communicating with.-Perforated sheets or rolls are used instead of embossed-point matter for the blind, in conjunction with translating-apparatus in which pegs or projections are advanced corresponding to the perforations. Fig. 2 shows apparatus for projecting six pegs M in two rows of three each on the Braille system. The perforated matter G is fed between perforated plates H, I over the pegs M, which are spring-supported between a stationary perforated plate L and another perforated plate K, which is depressible to withdraw the pegs M from the matter G. The apparatus is fitted in a desk and is operated by means of a lever, which first actuates an eccentric P and strap Q to depress the plate K, and then actuates feed-rollers R, T to advance the matter G from a roll in one side of the desk to a winding-on spool in the opposite side. According to the Provisional Specification, the perforated matter is fed over a metal rod and translated electrically by means of a metal comb in circuit with electro-magnets controlling the pegs or projections.
