Abstract

21,931. Muntz, W. E. Sept. 29. Code-signalling mechanism.-Where an electric or pneumatic bell serves for several different circuits &c., in order that it may be known by ear whence the ring proceeds, the calling-device is adapted to give a preliminary warning ring and then a distinctive ring made up of long and short sounds as in a Morse signal. To give the call, the operating handle (not shown), which is pivoted on the fixed stud a and is returnable by a spring, is thrown over towards the right. It carries with it the arm d which engages with a contact stud p on the segment e and closes the bell circuit to give the preliminary ring. The arm d sweeps over one quadrant, and as the segment e turns, the rack g winds up escapement-controlled clock mechanism h which brings about the return of the segment. The movement of the arm d also releases the pin l, arm k and rocking piece j, the rocking-piece falling back against the stop q. The rocking-piece j bears a contact n which in the forward portion is adapted to make contact with the distinctiveringing contact-piece o. When the operating- handle is released, the arm d flies back to the position shown, and the contact n returns to the forward position. The segment e moves slowly back to the position shown, and as it does so the contacts o pass successively beneath the contact n, and the distinctive ring is given. A detent pawl may be provided to ensure that the segment e shall not begin its return movement until the arm d and rocking lever j are back in the position shown. Similar devices may be employed to operate pneumatic bells.
