Abstract

20,670. Billet, J. J. A. Oct. 7, 1912, [Convention date]. Void. [Published under Section 91 of the Act.] Variable-speed epicyclic gearing.-Relates to epicyclic variable-speed and reversing gearing controlled by a governor acting through hydraulic means. Pinions 7 carried by a disk G loose on the driving-shaft 1 mesh with a gear 3 fast on the shaft 1, and with an internallytoothed ring on a loose disk 8. A gear 5 on a driven shaft 4 is driven from the disk 8 through intermediate pinions 10. The speed of the shaft 4 is varied by controlling the speed of the disk 6, which is connected to an eccentric 11 driving two pistons 13. The pistons 13 work in cylinders 14 containing liquid, which is forced from one to the other through a pipe 15. The pipe 15 has hand-operated cocks 16, 18 and also a cock 17, which. is operated automatically to control the speed by a governor 2 on the shaft 1. The governor 2 operates a double-clutch member 28. through which and through gearing the shaft 1 turns the cock 17 in one or the other direction.
