Abstract
13,080. Yarrow, A. F. June 5. Differential speed indicators; revolution-direction indicators.-Relates to arrangements of epicyclic gearing for indicating the synchronism of shafts in order to facilitate their clutching together. Bevel-wheels C, E of equal size are driven at the same ratio of speed by pulleys A', B' geared to the shafts it is desired to clutch. The wheels C, E gear with a planet pinion D carried by a casing F connected to a sleeve G screw-threaded on its outer surface. When the speeds of the two shafts are in agreement the sleeve G will remain stationary; at other times a screw thread upon its periphery will appear to move to the right or the left according to the direction of rotation. As shown in Fig. 2, the pulley B<1> may be connected to the planet casing F<1>, in which case the indicating- arm H<1> is connected to the second bevel-wheel E<1> and the casing F' is driven half as quickly as before. Spur-wheel epicyclic gearing may be substituted for that shown if the wheels are driven with the required ratios of speeds.
