10,198. Wiart, E. April 30. Drying wood; chambers; gases, supplying. -Relates to apparatus for drying, by dry steam, wood, cereals, forage, fruit and vegetables, bricks, celluloid, cement, &c. The " water " gasifier " d supplying dry steam is arranged in the middle of the chamber, the steam issuing from a number of jets e, and, as shown, between stacks of wood c. The chimney of the gasifier is divided into branches f<1>, the beat ot which prevents condensation. Pipes g discharge the moister vapours, their lower ends opening into trenches h in which water collects; this water is removed by siphons i or by valves or cocks. Wood to be dried is stacked tightly, to avoid deformation, and without exposing a large horizontal surface, as shown in Fig. 3, by gripping between pairs of notched planks j. Planks of wood may be held, as shown in Fig. 5, between plates m, m<1> on rods l passing through vertical stay-rods k.
