Abstract
5619. Parsons, Sir C. A. March 6. self-alining bearings.-A journal bearing for electric generating-machinery, marine turbines, propeller shafts, &c. comprises a number of bearing-blocks a pivoted symmetrically with line or point contact on the inner surface of a supporting-ring b. The blocks have cylindrical or spherical surfaces which engage the plain surface f of the ring b. The movement of the blocks is limited by bolts k, secured to the blocks by screwing or casting, and projecting loosely through holes j in the ring b, or by pins n connected to flanges on the ring and passing loosely through holes in the blocks parallel to the journal. The blocks may be faced with white metal m, or may consist of solid white metal.
