Abstract

2252. Fothergill, H. Jan. 28. [Cognate Applications, 2627/13 and 16,102/13.] Tapping.-Inflammable fluids are stored in hermetically - sealed cartridges a, which, after being placed in a container b or secured to a delivery pipe, are pierced to permit the fluid to enter a carburettor or vaporizer 3 or to pass directly into the cylinder or induction pipe of an internal-combustion engine, as shown in Fig. 11, for starting purposes; or the fluid may be used for heating the vaporizer at starting. The cartridges may contain some compressed air or gas for rapidly ejecting liquid fuel therefrom. The piercing may be effected during the positioning of the cartridge or subsequently by points e, g, and the container caps may be secured by screws or bayonet-joints. Several containers may be connected with one delivery pipe, some being in action while others are being recharged, thus giving a continuous discharge.
