Abstract
932. Hall, N. L. Jan. 12, 1912, [Convention date]. Sluice gates.-A radial sluice gate is built up of a series of independently-operable sections, so arranged that water may be passed from the top, bottom, or mid-depth of the stream. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the gate is formed of series of separate curved plates 20, 21, 22, 23 adjustably connected by turn-buckles 28 to arms 16, 17, 18, 19 pivoted on a common centre shaft. Each section may be raised by means of cables wound on winches 35. In the closed position, the gate sections abut against an arc-shaped recess 29 formed in each pier. The shaft 30 is eccentrically mounted in relation to this recess so that, as the sections are raised, they are drawn away from the abutments. Figs. 6 and 7 show forms in which each section is separately pivoted, each section 52 having two pivots 57 in the form shown in Fig. 7 and one 54, 55 in that shown in Fig. 6.
