Abstract

26,523. Schoenfeld, M. Nov. 19. Cutting-out embroidery. -In a machine for cutting fabric along an embroidered edge, the main portion of the fabric is fed by means which stretch it in the direction of feed, and is cut by a rotary dished knife 9. The fabric is fed over a plate 16 on the table 2 by rollers 17, 18. 19 20 in resilient bearings in a fork 21 secured to the bracket 3. The rollers 17 to 20 are driven by worms 23 and worm-wheels 22, Fig. 6, which are connected to the roller shafts by coupling parts 38, 41 and a belt 29. The peripheral speed of the rollers is increased in the direction of feed, by progressively decreasing the number of teeth in the worm - wheels, or increasing the diameters of the rollers. The fabric enters over a plush-covered roller 42, which can be moved axially by means of a handle 60 secured to a ring 60 encircling an end plate 42. The ring 60 may also be used as a brake. The edge of the fabric is passed under a guide 46 secured to the table 2 and having a flange 46, Fig. 3, between which and the roller 42 only the non- embroidered portion of the fabric can pass. The knife 9 is carried by an adjustable vertical shaft 5 rotating in bearings 4, 4<1> on the bracket 3, and is covered by a guard 10 with an opening 11 above the cutting-point. Adjacent to the knife is a narrow slot between the circular bevelled edge 13 of an adjustable plate 13, and a guide 15 below the knife and connected to the plate 13. The edge 13 has a rim 13, and the non- embroidered portion of the fabric is guided into the slot by a leaf 15 secured to the guide 15. The strip severed by the knife passes down through the slot and over a pivotally-adjustable conical roller 53 to a drum 54 beneath the table, while the rest of the fabric passes out over a roller 43.
