Abstract
25,040. Hammershlag, R., and Steinhart, T. Nov. 1. Optical instruments; specula. - In a light speculum for gynecological purposes, of the kind comprising one or more spoon-shaped mirrors a, b, provided with electric lamps i, i<1>, the battery for lighting the lamps is contained in the detachable handle n, and the conducting- wires between the lamps and battery are completely sealed or embedded. In the double speculum shown in Fig. 1, the spoons a, b are connected by means of a joint e, and can be opened by means of a screw f. The lower spoon has an extension m furnished with plugs m<1> which fit into sockets in the battery casing and engage contacts connected to the battery. An insulated wire g connected to one of the plugs passes through the parts m, d in an embedded position and is joined to a metal part e<1>, which is in electrical contact with a similar part e<4>, and is insulated from the outer part e<2> of the joint. Another insulated wire g<1> passes from the part e<4> through the part c to the lamp i, which is screwed into a threaded bore in the part h. The current returns from the lamp through the parts h, c, e<2>, d, and m to the battery. Current is conveyed to the lamp i<1> by a wire, which passes in an embedded position from the battery to the lamp through the part m, and the current returns through the part m. The casing n has two switches for controlling the lamps. The lamps are enclosed in protective casings t. In another form, only one spoon is used, and the current is conveyed to the lamp in the same way as to the lamp i<1>.
