[Published under Sec tion 91 of the Act.] Helical and composite springs; dash.-pots; connexions, attachments, and adjustments applicable generally for tensile and compressive springs.-Consists of a shock-absorber for the laminar springs of vehicles, in which one or more helical springs are interposed between the lid of a casing pivoted to one laminar spring and a plate carried by a pair of rods pivoted to the other spring and sliding in the casing. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the laminar suspension spring of the vehicle carries at its end a bolt 9, on which are pivoted two rods 4, passing through guides 5 in a cylindrical box 1, and bolted at their lower ends to a sliding plate 2, between which and the lid of the box is arranged a helical spring 8. The box is pivoted by means of the bolt 11 to the laminar frame spring of the vehicle and may be filled with oil, in which case the tubular guides are arranged to act as stuffing-boxes. The Specification comprises also the subject-matter of the divided Specification 26,293/12, in which the single helical spring is replaced by a nest of springs, and means for adjusting the springs are provided.
