Abstract

6325. Bryan, A., and Mountfort, L. F. March 14. Plug cocks.-In valves of the rotary-shutter type comprising a rotary rectangular shutter arranged in a rectangular-sectioned casing, the top and bottom sides being provided with seatings disposed in the plane of the axis of rotation of the shutter, the seatings g, Fig. 3, are of small dimensions so that the shutter edges contact therewith in closing only when the shutter is practically perpendicular. To prevent the flow of liquid from being impeded, the casing is made of rectangular cross-section throughout the whole or the greater part of its length, and the shutter e is formed of a tapering section, Figs. I and 3 respectively. Leakage is prevented by metallic spring-pressed contact strips i slidable mounted in the valve or valve seatings. The valve spindles d are supported between circular bearing-disks f. The valve described is more particularly for use in connexion with the operating-gear described in Specification 3699/12 for controlling the discharge of sewage on to bacteria beds.
