Abstract
6131. Foley, J. S. March 12. Belts.-Relates to chain-belts of the kind in which a pitch chain meshes with a sprocketwheel while certain of its links are adapted to engage frictionally a V-grooved belt pulley, the device being applicable to drive a V-pulley on the road wheel of a motor-cycle from a sprocketwheel on the engine shaft. Alternate links b of the chain a are furnished with laterally flexible metallic wings or extensions b<2> suitably inclined to fit the pulley groove. The wings b<2> may extend from the top or the bottom of the links b and may be attached thereto or formed integrally therewith, being bent in the latter case from blanks of sheet steel with clearance holes b<3> for the rivet pins a<1>. The lower corners of the wings b<2> are rounded off. The wings b<2> may be provided with facing-pieces of leather, rubber, fibre, &c. secured thereto by rivets or by turning-up the end edges of the wings.
