Abstract
27,902. Fixen, L. G. Dec. 12. Non-metallic substances, obtaining; cells; electrodes; electrolytes, circulating.-Brine or other liquid flows in the same direction as an electric current, say from an anode 3 placed across the middle of a long cell to cathodes 2 at the ends of the cell, and the products at each end are withdrawn at two points, one pipe 13 near each cathode serving for example to remove sodium hypochlorite, and another pipe 14 to remove part of the chlorine solution before it mixes with the cathode products. The flow of the liquid may be retarded by partitions 6, 7 arranged alternately, the partitions 7 having perforations 10 near their upper edges, while the partitions 6 are cut away at alternate bottom corners. The partitions may be of carbon.
