Abstract

21,792. Hale, F. M. July 27. Projectile fuses.-Relates to percussion fuses for projectiles fired by a stem from a small-arm such as described in Specification 15,045/08, and especially to fuses of the kind in which the striker is armed by the removal of a member secured to the muzzle of the gun. According to the invention, the removable member 21. is annular and normally encloses one or more pins 7, which have rounded ends 8 projecting within a rounded groove 9 in the striker 3. The ring 21 is held in the safe position by a shear wire 17. The member 21 is attached by a bayonet joint 23 to a sleeve 24 clamped to the muzzle nf the gun by a screw 26. When the projectile is discharged, the wire 17 is sheared and the member 21 is retained by the gnn and releases the pins 7 which then either fall off or at least offer no impediment to the forward motion of the striker 3 on impact.
