Abstract

Roses and perforated nozzles and pipes; nozzles with universal joints.-For sterilizing tracks followed by vessels in the region of coral reefs, to prevent the growth of coral, a vessel is fitted with poison tanks, pumping-apparatus, and a submersible distributor for discharging the poison, which is heavier than water. The distributor, which may be of the form shown in Fig. 2, is lowered and trailed over the coral region, and a poison heavier than water, for example formalin, crude carbolic acid, mercuric chloride &c. is pumped out of the rakelike nozzles G. These nozzles are ball-headed and perforated as shown. An alternative form of distributor connected to the delivery pipe by a flexible connexion is shown in Fig. 3.
