Abstract

16,309. Dean, H. S. July 14. Upholstery stuffing- apparatus.-In a device for packing or stuffing articles with granulated cork &c., a revolving archimedian screw 1 in a box 4, Figs. 1 and 3, surrounds and carries a reciprocating plunger 2 with a barbed end 3 positioned in a tube 7 projecting from the box, the screw feeding the material to the end of the plunger, w h i c h p u s h e s the material through the nozzle. The material is conveyed from a hopper 8 to the box 4 by means of a conveyer 14. In operation, the treadle 32 is depressed, whereby the pulley 19 is clutched to the shaft 17 and the plunger starts to reciprocate through the belt gearing 20, 56 and eccentric 55. A continued movement of the pedal actuates the levers 29, 41, whereby, through the clutch 34 and pulleys 38, 40, the screw 1 is rotated. At the same time, the hopper door 11 is opened through levers 52, 53. The conveyer is driven through belting 57 and speed-changing mechanism 61. Stirrers 45, 48 are arranged in the hopper.
