Abstract

16,002. Vesian, J. S. E. de. July 10. [Cognate Applications, 16,862/11 and 27,591/11.] Subaqueous structures.-A reinforced-concrete structure for use in the construction of harbours, piers, wharves, jetties, dolphins, and marine constructions generally, of the type adapted to be floated into position and then sunk, comprises external walls surrounding cylinders which can be sealed. Walls a enclose cylinders b, c, the cylinders b being shown closed at their lower ends. The walls are splayed out at the bottom to secure a firm foundation. The triangular openings fare utilized for ramming rubble if necessary, or piles may be driven through the cylinders. The structure may be provided with counterforts of the same construction. To withstand shocks, the cylinders are filled with water and the tops filled with concrete. When used in great depths the members may be placed one above the other, socket joints being made in the external walls. A dolphin consists of a triangular wall surrounding one or more cylinders.
