9320. Williamson, J. April 15. Cup-leather packing.-Chrome-tanned leather for hydraulic rings, pumps, valves, and other mechanical purposes is impregnated with plumbago, talc, or steatite, which acts as a lubricant. After tannage and before the drying is complete, the hides are drummed at a temperature between 140‹ F. and 160‹ F. in wax containing the graphite or talc, in the form of an impalpable powder, until they are saturated.
