Abstract
1204. Hudson, F. Jan. 17. Frames, joints, and connexions. - Brackets for securing table tops to their frames are provided with elongated apertures or slots along which the heads of the fastening screws can slide to allow for shrinkage or expansion of the wood. One form of bracket is shown secured to the underside of a table in Fig. 1. The bracket consists of three parts, a base d, an upright part e, and one or more spikes f adapted to enter the side rail b of the table frame. The base d has a slot h in which the head of the fixing-screw i can travel on expansion or contraction of the wood. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which the upright e has a slot n, and the base two slots h which may be continued to the edge of the plate as shown in dotted lines. Fig. 7 shows a modification in which the base d has an aperture in the form of a cross. The fixing-screw is placed at the centre of the cross. In other modifications, the aperture may be in the form of aT, or several slots may be provided at right-angles to one another.
