27,811. Birch, A., Hamer, W., and Great Lever Spinning Co. Nov. 30. Drawing-frames.-Relates to means for regulating or evening the slivers delivered from carding, combing, and like machines. The sliver is passed through a pair of plain and a pair of conical rollers 3, 3<a>, and 12, 12<a> which are driven uniformly, and the position at which the sliver passes through the rollers is determined by the tension or density of the sliver. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the sliver passes over a balanced lever 2 which is pivoted upon and is capable of sliding along a rod 15 parallel with the rollers. Upon the underside of the lever are segmental nuts 18, 18<a>, which, when the lever is tilted, respectively engage with one or other of a pair of continuously rotating conical screws 17, 17<a>, by which the position of the lever 2 is adjusted. The rotating screws may be replaced by a travelling chain having projections, which, when the lever 2 is tilted, engage with corresponding projections on an arm projecting from the lever. Or the sliver may be passed through a guide funnel on the end of a balanced lever, which is so mounted that as it turns it moves the sliver along the nip of the rollers.
