Fire-bars. - Furnace and like fire-bars are lozenge - shape in cross - section, as shown in Fig. 3, and are provided with narrow fuelsupporting surfaces s in line with the upper faces s<1>, Fig. 1, of the heads B of the bars. The inclined surfaces t, t<1>, u, u<1> form parallel side ridges 4. Grooves n formed in the inclined surfaces u, u<1> serve to increase the air space between the bars. Side projections 5 keep the bars in a vertical position, and, in conjunction with the distance-pieces at the ends of the bars, preserve the necessary air space between the side ridges.
