Electric equipment.-The starter brushes a' of a lift motor are raised over their contacts by the engagement of racks a' on them, with a pinion c<4>. The pinion is geared to a shaft c<3> driven in one direction or the other by the cage through the intervention of a friction clutch under the control of a magnet d. The shaft of the pinion is journaled in the end of the lower arm z of a spider c, having four arms at right-angles, and normally held horizontally and vertically by a spring scissors arrangement c<2>. On being rocked to one side or another by reversing links b<1>, the pinion engages one or other of the racks and starts the motor. In the "full on" position, a magnetic projection d<1> on the rack frame is held by the magnet d, a plunger within which is released by the de-energisation of the magnet. When the cage is at rest and puts the shaft c<3> into gear with the cage-driving mechanism, any movement of the cage when the controller is at the " stop " position then actuates the controller to close a braking- circuit about the motor armature. The braking- resistance i, Fig. 3, is in circuit with switches g, both of which are closed by the reversing-plungers b, when the switch arm f has been moved to the " off " position.
