Abstract

Jigs.-In coal and ore washers or separators of the type in which the material is treated in a box immersed in liquid and having a perforated bottom through which a flow of liquid is produced by a jigging motion imparted to the box, an auxiliary perforated bottom is applied directly to the underside of the first perforated bottom, and is reciprocated horizontally, so that on the downward movement of the box, the perforations are in register, but on the upward movement they are out of register and prevent suction action through the material. In the form shown, the material is treated in a box 1 immersed in liquid in a tank 8, and caused to reciprocate vertically. An auxiliary perforated bottom 3 is reciprocated horizontally by a stop 10 on the box engaging lugs 5<a>, 5<b> on one arm of a lever 5 connected by a link 4 with the bottom 3. Alternative means are described for producing the horizontal reciprocation of the bottom 3.
