Sheet clamping, feeding, and guiding arrangements; erasing-tables.-Several sheets of paper arranged side by side on the platen, are controlled independently so that one may be clamped against movement while another is being fed. The feeding and clamping means for a sheet are arranged so that one is in action when the other is out of action. The arrangement is applicable to billing work in which one sheet receives only a summary of the matter written on another sheet. A single wide sheet may be used on the platen. The platen 5, supported in end plates 4, is provided with two sets of the usual feed or pressure rollers. Figs. 1 and 3 show the rollers for the right half of the platen, but the left half is provided with a similar independent set; two sheets are employed. Brackets 7 support spring-controlled arms 9 carrying a rod 10 which supports the sections 11 of a main feed roller. Similar arms 13 support a rod 14 carrying the sections 15 of a secondary roller. Paper-aprons 17 are also provided. A rock-shaft 18 has lugs 19 engageable with lugs 20 on the arms 9, and an arm 21 linked to a finger-lever 25 that is linked to an arm 27 pivoted at 28. When the finger-lever is moved forward to straighten the toggle 25, 27, in which position it is locked, the main and secondary rollers and the apron 17 are released from the platen. A rod 29 secured to the end plates 4 supports fixed arms 31, which carry marginal paper-fingers 32 and pivoted carriers 33 supporting pressure rollers 35. These rollers act through the fingers 32 and may be held either against or away from the platen by means of spring plungers 36, Fig. 5, engaging faces on the arms 31. A pair of fingers 32 and rollers 35 co-operate with each half of the platen. An erasing-plate 38 is carried by the rod 29 and co-operates with spring clamping- fingers 42 secured to a rock-shaft 40 mounted in hubs 39 on the arms 31. In the present instance, the clamping-fingers co-act with the right-hand sheet only, but an independent set may be provided for each sheet. An arm 49 on the shaft 40 is connected by a link 52 to an arm 54 on the shaft 18 so that, when the finger-lever 25 is rocked forward to release the main and secondary pressure rollers, the fingers 42 are rocked to clamp the paper upon the plate 38; backward movement of the finger-lever 25 releases the fingers 42. An arm 46 on the shaft 40, and the forward end of the arm 49, are provided with openings 58, into which extend pins 57 on the carriers 33 of the rollers 35. By this means, the rollers 35 are moved away from and up to the platen by the movements of the finger-lever 25. The fingers 42 are shown provided with rubber &c. sheaths 45; in a modification, the sheaths may be arranged upon the erasing-plate 38 opposite the fingers.
