Abstract

1540. Negley. A. P. Jan. 20. Stays.-A stay for fan-lights, casements, &c. consists of a segmental bar f<1> pivoted to the fan-light &c. a, Fig. 1, or the frame, and passing through a slot g<1>, Fig. 2, in a bearing pivoted to the frame or fan-light. The bearing is formed of two plates h<1>, h<2> having alined recesses which together constitute the slot g<1>. The bar f<1> is frictionally held in the bearing by means of a pressure-plate j<1>, which presses upon the bar under the action of a spring n encircling a projection j<2> on the plate j<1> and adjustable by a screw P.
