Abstract

27,145. Wardwell, S. W. Nov. 22. Bobbins, pirns, &c.- A bobbin or pirn on which yarn is wound for use in a knitting-machine is made in the form of a telescopic tube which, when extended to its full length, provides a support on which the yarn is wound, and which, when the yarn is unwound therefrom, automatically reduces its operative length at intervals so that the yarn may deliver freely. The bobbin or tube A consists of telescopic tubular sections a, b, c, the ends a<2>, b<3> of the sections a, b respectively being spun inwards and coacting with annular ribs b<2>, c<2> on the sections b, c respectively to prevent those sections from being withdrawn from the sections a, b, respectively. The ribs b<2>, c<2> with similar ribs b<1>, c' form extended bearings for the slidable sections. The section a has an internal rib a<3>, and the section b has an in-turned rim b<4>, which limit the movement of the sections when telescoped, each succeeding section then projecting slightly beyond the end of the adjacent section. The section a is provided with a wood or fibre head d or e secured thereto by a flange bent over and pressed into the material of the head.
