Abstract

21,102. Cotta, C. Sept. 15. Variable-speed gearing.-Relates to a device for operating variable - speed gearing of the kind in which one of a number of slidable bars with cross-grooves is selected by an operating-finger, while the other bars are locked by a transverselymovable yoke with foot-pieces sliding in the crossgrooves. The bars 39, 43, Fig. 6, which slide in grooves in a frame 1, have cross-grooves 41, 45, which may be moved into line with cross-grooves 36, 37, 38 in the frame 1. The cross-grooves serve as a guide for the foot-pieces 68, 69, Fig. 2, of the yoke 70. The yoke 70 is journaled upon an operating-rod 64, to which is secured a dependiog finger 65. Longitudinal movement of the rod 64 causes the finger 65 to move from one to the other of the grooves 41, 45. A turning movement of the rod 64 then effects the sliding of the bar and the operation of the corresponding clutch &c, of the variable-speed gearing.
