Abstract
13,780. Hayley, W. J. June 11. Grip, facilitating.-Relates to carpet brushes, whisks, and the like, of the type provided with a handle mounted directly on the back, and consists in providing a gripping-piece for the fingers at the side of the stock and a strap longitudinally mounted on the stock for the back of the hand. Figs. 1 and 2 show a wooden gripping - piece b, suitably rounded at c and hollowed at d, fixed to one side of the stock a, and the strap f secured at e and held at the other end g by a hook h so as to be adjustable to the hand of the user. In a modification, the solid grip b is replaced by a metal plate bent to a similar shape, and a thumb-hole may be also provided in the stock. In other modifications, the gripping-piece is adapted to slide in a transverse groove and be secured by a pivoted catch so as to project from either side of the stock, or it is pivoted in the centre for the same purpose. Fig. 7 shows a further modification with a gripping-piece u of bent metal projecting at both sides of the stock, and provided with raised-up portions v for the strap f having holes to hook over the pins w, which are driven through the metal into the stock of the brush.
