Abstract

[Addition to 12,979/08.] Operating swing- ing doors; checks. -Relates to improvements in the apparatus described in the parent Specification, and refers to the links, couplers, and the means for connecting, adjusting, and operating the check, and for securing the alinement of the door or the like, Fig. 1 shows a double-action door-closing device in which the links and couplers are made integral with each other and the combined link-couplers a, b are pivoted to the spring action-plates c, d and engage pins e on a cam l carried by the door pivot f. The upper ends of the link-couplers are forked to embrace the cam l, and are provided with blocks a<2>, b<2>, Figs. 1 and 4, which are engaged by the cam when the door is opened through a right-angle, so that further opening of the door beyond a rightangle may be obtained. Springs a<3> assist in the closing of the door. The check cylinder h is pivoted to a yoke i, which is pivoted to one linkcoupler b and has a slot i<2> which engages a pin i<3> on the link-coupler a. The shapes of the cam and yoke are such that they remain in contact when the door is opened, so that the check is positively actuated when the door is closed. A lubricating-hole l<2> on the cam is provided. The means for alining the door and adjusting the piston-rod of the check are shown in Figs. 1 and 2. A hollow cylindrical pivot m is riveted to the casing and contains a plug n, which is perforated to receive a pin p for securing the piston-rod o. The pivot m is surrounded by a rocking lever r, one end of which is provided with a capstan screw s or a wedge bearing against the end of the link-coupler a for alining the door, the other end being provided with a screw t bearing against the link-coupler b to take up slack due to wear. Fig. 3 shows a double - acting apparatus having a single spring g. Two links u pivoted to the action - plate c are also-pivoted to a pair of radius arms r, v<1> pivoted at w to the casing. The couplers x are integral with the links u or are pivoted thereto as shown. The check piston-rod is pivoted to an extension of the radius arm v<1> or to the adjacent link u. Instead of the arms v, v<1> a yoke similar to that shown in Fig. 1 may be employed. The form of apparatus shown in Fig. 1 may be used as a single-acting device, in which case one of the closing - springs and link - couplers is omitted.
