Abstract

11,547. Hodgson, J. May 15. Rotary tubular valves having circumferential admission and exhaust ports which are always open to the admission and exhaust conduits and register from time to time with the cylinder ports, such as are described in Specification 885/09, are provided with broad split spring rings a having admission and exhaust ports b, and with loose split rings d mounted on the body of the valve at either side of the rings a. The rings a also carry loose split rings e mounted in grooves at each side of the ports. The rings a are prevented from rotating by a stop c, and the rings a, d are kept in place axially by loose rings g and by rings f secured by screws. The rings d, e prevent too free passage of lubricant between the valve and its casing, and they also prevent leakage should the ring a be lifted from the faces of the cylinder ports during the compression and working strokes. The valve is mounted on ballbearings at its ends, so that contact with the casing is made only by the spring rings.
