Abstract

11,154. Patterson, G. L. May 26, 1908, [Convention date]. Cases; connexions.-Dry cells are screwed into sockets 4, which are detachably connected to U-shaped bed-plates 5, of conducting material, embedded in a moulded insulating-cover, by reinforcing U-shaped plates 6, arranged within the sockets and clamped, for example, by screws to the bedplate. A spring 9 in each socket is connected to the bed-plate of the next socket or to a terminal 10<a>, and make contact with an electrode 3 of carbon &c. when the zinc cell, serving as the other electrode, is screwed into position. Each socket 4 is cut away to fit over an insulating abutment 8 adapted to limit the upward motion of the spring 9. A protecting case having a gas exit 12<a> may be provided. In a modification which enables a cell to be removed without breaking the circuit, each reinforcing-plate 6 is provided with a metal loop 14, Fig. 8, with which the spring 9 makes contact when released.
