Feeding sheets.-A rotary duplicating or office printing-machine is provided with automatic driving and feeding arrangements, for use either separately or together, and mounted on an independent and removable base. An automatic switch for stopping the machine when the pile of papers is nearly exhausted is also provided. The electric driving-motor 61 is mounted on a base-plate 40, and drives the printing-machine through a wheel 60 gearing with the existing spur-wheel 24 on theimpression-roller shaft. The motor also drives an adjustable crank 71 by means of which, through a slotted connecting - rod 70 provided with a rack engaging a spur-wheel loose on the shaft 92, a friction separating-roller 93 is driven intermittently by an intermediate ratchet-wheel and pawl. The sheets are fed by this roll from a container consisting of adjustable front and side pieces 86, and a bottom piece 81, all mounted on a framework carrying the feeding-mechanism, and detachable from the base 40. Mounted on a shaft 103 journaled in the framework are two bell-crank levers 96 carrying a small roller 95 for pressing the sheets against the separating-roller 93. The other ends of the levers 96 are connected to adjustable springs 9, and a catch 105 holds the levers 96 in the inoperative position. The levers 96 have a small amount of rotating play, to allow the roller 95 to press evenly against the paper. The separated sheets are pushed by the roller 93 against a separating- bar 111 having a curved surface 113 and edge 114 by which all the sheets but the front one are held back. The sheet passes through the guides 120,122 to the front stops 35 of the machine. The guide 122 has extensions 123 passing along recessed portions of the roller 93. When the pile of papers is much reduced, a stop 148 contacts with a rod 156, and thereby lifts the catch 140, Fig. 5, at the end of the lever 141 out of engagement with the notch 142 in the sliding bar 195 carrying the contact-piece 137. The machine is thus stopped. To re-start the machine, the end 138 is pressed inwards until the catch 140 re-engages.
