Abstract

Posts, claw, and like files; attaching files to covers.-A loose-leaf binder, in which the leaves are carried on pairs of prongs, and one of each pairs of prongs is attached to a longitudinal rod having a cranked portion adapted to be engaged by a cam on an actuating member so as to open or close the prongs, has the cam portion formed integrally with the actuating member by suitably shaping this member. The prongs 2, 3 are formed integrally with rods 4, 5 respectively by bending up their ends, each of the rods having a cranked portion 9 between the prongs. The rods can rotate in bearings 7 formed by turned-up portions on a U-shaped casing 6, which is attached to the cover by tongues 8. The actuating-bar 10, Figs. 1, 3 and 4, is bent so as to form integral cam portions 13 which are adapted, when the bar is moved in one direction to engage with the cranked portions 9 of the rods 4, 5 so as to close the prongs. A spring 14 bearing on the underside of the cranked portions 9 causes the jaws to open when the cam portions 13 are moved out of engagement with the cranked portions 9. In Fig. 8 the actuating-bar 10 is rotated to close the jaws, and for this purpose is provided with a cam surface 13 formed by flattening it on one side. The spring may be. dispensed with, and the jaws opened and closed positively by arranging the cranked portions 9 of the rods 4, 5 between two actuating bars, each having integral cam portions for opening and closing the jaws.
