Tension and pressure members in guide tubes.-A press for cow-milkers, consisting of plates 1, 5 connected by springs 3, 4, is actuated by flexible wires or cords of coiled steel wire 7, 8 connected to levers 11 which are depressed by cams 21 on a rotating shaft 14. The plate 1, which may be of aluminium, is adjustably attached by a clamp 35 to a supporting-plate 29. The spring 4 is attached to the lower end of the plate 5, the upper end being bent over the spring 3. The cords 7, 8 pass through coiled steel-wire tubes 9 which abut against the plate 1 and the frame 13 of the operating-mechanism. To tighten the wires, the tubes are adjusted in length by means of an internally threaded tube 24, Fig. 4, fitted with a screw-plug 25, 26 at each end, inserted at any point. A locking-nut 27 may be provided on this adjuster. A series of levers 11 is mounted on the pivot 12, and the frame 13 is supported from the shaft 14 by a hook 22, and at the other end on a rod 17 which is gripped by projections 15, 16 and a rod 19, which is retained by a spring 20. The hook 22 may be replaced by an eye surrounding the shaft and having a hook adjustably screwed into it. The part 30 of the frame, which carries the hook 22, may be pivoted at 31 so that the distance of the levers 11 from the shaft 14 may be adjusted.
