Abstract

1682. Rateau, A. Feb. 27, 1906, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Mixing gases.-Where two pumps driven by one engine are used to produce a mixture of two gases in a ratio to be kept constant, a magnifying-device such as is described below is inserted in the supply or discharge pipe of each pump, and the two devices together control a governor piston. Small variations in the pressure of the mains are thus utilized. Une such magnifying-device is shown in Fig. 1, and consists of a succession of contracted tubes, placed one inside the other around a common axis in the discharge pipe as shown at 15, 16, 17. From the narrowest part of the innermost tube 17 a pipe leads to one side of a governor piston 8. A by-pass containing an adjustable vane 19 connects the extremities of the magnifying-device.
