Abstract
25,994. Kuzel, H. Jan. 20, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Incandescent lamps.-Filaments are attached to leading-in wires by modifications of the process described in Specification No. 12,153, A.D. 1906. In place of, or in addition to the carbides of refractory metals mentioned in that Specification, carbon compounds of aluminium or silver, or both, with or without additional carbon, the metals themselves, or the refractory metals referred to, may be used as solders. The materials are applied either in the molten condition, or in the form of a paste containing the previously-made compounds or a mixture of the metals with carbon or a carbonaceous substance. Copper, gold, platinum, osmium, or iridium, or a mixture of any of these, may be made into a paste with carbon or a carbonaceous substance, or added to the solders described above or in the above-mentioned Specification. When a paste is used, the joint is heated in a vacuum or inert gas to fuse or sinter the materials. Arsenic, antimony, or oxygen or sulphur compounds thereof, may be also added, the compounds being reduced to metal by excess of carbon. The use of gold, platinum, iridium, or osmium is advantageous when the three last-named metals are to be soldered.
