Abstract

15,828. Weissenstein, E. July 12. Soles; insoles; uppers.-The soles of boots and shoes are covered by a material the constitution of which is string, cord, band, &c. made of jute, hemp, or the like. It is preferable, as shown in Fig. 1, to begin laying down the string 2 at the outer edge of the sole, and to proceed towards the centre, and at the same time sew or quilt the string to the sole by machine or by hand. This covering may be applied to both sides of the sole or to one side only, as shown in Fig. 3, in which the string 2 is secured in zigzag lines across the sole and is prevented from squeezing out by a band 4 of strong material, such as leather. An inner sole may be used provided with a similar covering. In a modification, Fig. 5, the covering 2 extends some distance along the upper 5 to form a protection 7. The string may be laced into the sole, as illustrated in Fig. 6.
