Abstract

65. Pelletier, J. E. L., and Monier, G. F. Jan. 1. Dumb-bells.-In a dumb-bell of the type in which the balls A, A<1> and the cross-bar B form a hollow chamber into which weights E, E<1> may be introduced or withdrawn at will, the weights are provided with projections G at one part and with notches F at another, corresponding parts D being provided on the mouth of the weight chamber. The weights can be pressed into the chamber against the action of a spring H, and, after being turned through the necessary angle, are prevented from springing out by the lugs D. The shape of the balls of the dumb-bell and the weights may be varied. The handle may be solid, in which case a spring is employed at each end.
