Abstract
2774. Couper, P. Feb. 10. Strainers.-Relates to an apparatus for concentrating the green pulp before bleaching, for removing the strong bleaching -liquor from the bleached pulp, and for concentrating the bleached and washed pulp before beating. The pulp is pumped along a pipe A, Fig. 2, and through a flared mouthpiece a on to the foraminous surface B of a rotating drum, enclosed by a suitable casing C and divided into compartments by partitions g. The pulp is compressed and removed from the drum by a roller K, and from the latter by one or other of a pair of scrapers or doctors N, O, and transferred to a vessel where the bleaching or washing operation is performed, while the liquid which passes through the foraminous material strikes a single or double cone-shaped centre piece H, taperinz towards the open end or ends of the drum. Fig. 5 shows a drum having longitudinal ribs G' and a stationary trough R to convey away the liquid forced through the perforations. The drum is supported on antifriction rollers S and driven by means of the sprocket-wheel T.
