Abstract

1844. Overend, S. E. P. Jan. 31. Billiards.-A pocket for billiard &c. tables is formed of a metal &c. tube or sleeve a, Fig. 4, with a side hole b, through which the ball can be easily extracted, in order to decrease the wear of the cloth around the pockets. The pocket a is sewn to netting d, is lined with thin leather &c. f, and is provided with a protecting-washer g secured in position by stitching passing through a leather ring h and holes in the pocket a. To prevent the balls from falling out, a piece f of leather is attached across the upper end of the hole b. The ball is lifted from underneath to remove it. In a modification, Fig. 5, the pocket a has an extension k, so that the ball can be removed without the use of a bottom opening. The pocket may be of double form, shaped as an inverted T or Y, and may be of curved or other shape.
