23,370. Hoffmann Manufacturing Co., and Mair, W. B. Oct. 29. Ball bearing; thrust and end-pressure bearings.- Relates to thrust bearings in which two or more rows of balls are employed. In Fig. 1, two rings of balls a, b are shown, the outer having twice as many balls as the inner. The balls run on tracks formed in a part c which may be divided similarly to the parts d, e. These parts abut and bear on an elastic metal ring j split at x. The ring has inclined faces to correspond with the inclined faces f, g of the rings d, e, the angles h, i determining the load transmitted from the shaft through the collar l and parts d, e which each set of balls shall carry. The load is distributed to two bearings which abut against two shoulders on a shaft by the arrangement shown in Fig. 2. The elastic ring j has inclined faces u, r<1> which correspond with the inclines of the housing p and the part q<1> of the lower bearing. The lower part q of the upper bearing rests on the projection s of the housing p, and both may have inclined faces r. The elastic ring, though preferably made in one piece cut through, may consist of a number of pieces, or its slots may be partly cut through its section, or it may be made up of a ring of balls.
