Abstract

970. Storey, A. H. Jan. 14. Lift valves; spindles.-In order to obviate the necessity for washers or other packing, the spindle of the lift valve shown in Fig. 1, is formed with a conical part G which is ground into a seating in the cover E, a tight joint being maintained by means of a collar P between the cover and the hand-wheel, or by a spring. The screwed spindle has a screw connection with the conical lift valve L by means of a block K. The block K is rigidly attached to the valve, or connected to it, as shown in Fig. 4, by a pin T, the head of which is engaged loosely in a recess in the block. To prevent the block K from rotating with the spindle, projections X on opposite sides of the block slide in vertical guides W, Fig. 1, in the casing.
