1705. Winkler, F. Jan. 23. Type, distributing. - The types to be distributed are placed between guides on a table 2, one line being fed forward and the end types knocked off from it into a mouth 13. The lower part of the mouth 13 is of spherical form, and on it swivels the upper end of a tube 11, on which telescopes a second tube 12. The lower end of the tube 12 swivels on the spherical upper end of a guide 14 carried by a lever 6, which is operated by hand to bring the guide over the proper openings 16 in a plate 15. From these openings tubes 17 lead to the compartments 18 of a type case, or of the magazine of a composing-machine. The lever 6 slides through a vertical pivot 5 in a step bearing 7, and is provided with an index finger 8, the pin 9 of which moves over a series of index holes 4 in a plate 3. The holes 4 and the openings 16 are in corresponding rows radiating from the pivot 5. When the pin 9 has been moved over the proper hole 4, the lever 6 is depressed, and operates a lever frame 19, which engages a rod 25 connected to a slide 23, by which the end types are knocked off into the mouth 13. A slide 20 is moved, so as to permit types of the various thicknesses to be knocked off, by a diagonal slot in the slide 23, and the movement of the slide 23 is varied by the different degree of depression of the lever 6, the depression of the lever being limited by adjusting screws 10.
