Abstract

26,154. Herr, E. M. Dec. 7, A.D. 1901, [date applied for under Patents Act, A.D. 1901]. Brakes.-Relates to means for compensating a u t o - matically the wear of rail and wheel shoes. Figs. 1 and 3 show the application to magnetic rail shoes 1, which are hung from the bracket 7 by springs 6 and linked to the wheel shoes 2 in the manner shown. In the sockets 18 are mounted the heads 17 of the adjusting-bolts 15, which have arms 16 and screw into the brackets 14. Under normal conditions, the arms 16 are clear of the fixed pins 12, 13, but when the blocks become worn the arms come against the pins, so that the bolts 15 are rotated by the drag of the shoes 1, and the clearance space between the rail and the shoes is reduced. In the application to magnetic wheel shoes, the bolt 15, Fig. 4, has an arm 16 adapted to engage the fixed stops 12, 13, and take up the slack in the manner described.
