Abstract

22,981. Brown, G. W., and Beaumont, G. R. Dec. 15. Magic-lantern apparatus.-Relates to means for framing and setting off pictures thrown on a screen by a kinematograph or magic-lantern, and consists of a slide i representing a frame, and a shutter a made in two parts pivoted at b. The shutter is operated by a handle g<3>, pinion and rack mechanism f, g, and links c. The inner edges of the shutter, which overlap when closed, are shaped as shown so as to give the appearance on the screen, while they are being separated, of two curtains looped up from each side. When the shutter is opened the illuminated representation of a frame is thrown on the screen by the slide i. The slide i is preferably illuminated by a subsidiary lantern, but it may be illuminated from the main lantern by mirrors. The pictures are shown through a mask, the aperture in which is not quite so large as the inside of the frame so as to leave a thin black band or mount between the picture and the frame. The extension a<2> serves as a shutter for the main lantern.
