Abstract
6620. Capitaine, E. April 9. Calliper gauges. - One or both of the legs A B, A' B' are made in two parts, so that the ends A, A<1> can be set approximately to the required measurement, say, by a sliding gauge as shown. The parts A B, A' B' are then clamped together, and the points of the callipers finely adjusted by means of a screw X acting on the vernier arm Z<1> against the action of a spring S. For large work, the two legs may each be in one piece and be pivoted to clamps working on a cross-bar; the ends of the leg B' and the vernier arm Z<1> are similarly connected, but the cross-bar can be lengthened or shortened by a nut and right and left-handed screw.
