Abstract
3696. Hardy & Padmore and Southall, J. Feb. 26. Dumb-bells.-Dumb-bells are constructed so that their end-pieces are or may be placed out of line with the handle. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the handle A, of oval section, carries end pieces B secured by screws C and fitted with screws E to receive the parts D. Discs F may be inserted between the parts B and D so as to vary the weight. By substituting concentric pieces for the parts B and inserting the screws E in the tubular handle, the ends are brought in line with the handle. Fig. 7 shows a modification, in which the ends B, D are pivoted to the handle A, so that they can be placed in line therewith or at right-angles thereto. Dumbbells may be made with the ends fixed permanently at right-angles to the handle. The handles may be constructed to receive material to vary the weight.
