Abstract

13,932. Greene, S. A. July 6. Dress shields.-Fig. 1 shows one form of dress guard or shield folded along the uppermost line. The part to fit in the sleeve is preferably made longer and narrower than that to fit in the bodice. It is made of thin waterproof fabric a provided with buttonhole tabs for loops, eyelets, or other means of fastening it in the garment. On each of the inner faces of the shield is formed a pocket b of net, and in these pockets is held a pad g, Fig. 5, formed of a layer of flannelette or other absorbent material having a backing of cotton or other thin fabric. In the space h between the layer g and its backing is placed an antiseptic powder which is composed of a mixture of infusorial earth, starch, boracic acid, and alum, to which may be added a few drops of attar of roses. The pockets b may be replaced by cross bands, or the pad g may itself be provided with tabs &c. for attaching it to the dress shield a. In a modification, adapted to be worn next to the skin, the dress guard consists of two folds of thick absorbent paper between which the pad g is placed.
