Abstract
3727. Tobell, J. Feb. 15. Separating or sorting coffee &c.-Relates to a pneumatic process for removing impurities, imperfectlyroasted berries, &c. from coffee and the like. The coffee is spread out upon a perforated sorting-table or band, and the imperfect berries removed one by one by means of a movable tube having a strong suction-current of air induced by a fan. Or fixed tubes may be arranged transversely to travelling bands, the air current being regulated either to remove light impurities or to suck up all the berries, leaving stones &c. behind. Fig. 3 shows in plan a sorting-table arranged for the use of six operators seated at P<1>, P<2>, &c., and having six independent travelling bands I, II, III, &c. The sorted berries are separately discharged at the points marked B. In the Provisional Specification an upward-current cleaning and sorting apparatus is described.
